In this course, SLPs and SLP graduate students will learn everything they need to know about gender expansive voice care for transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) patients, clients and students, from policy to technique through a culturally responsive lens.

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR
AC Goldberg (he/him) is a sought-after keynote speaker, skilled workshop facilitator, lecturer, and consultant. He is committed to creating affirming spaces for all people. AC's work emphasizes authenticity, humanity, trauma-informed care, and empathic rapport building. With over two decades of experience, he helps transform environments through connection, trust, and compassion.
Financial: AC is the founder of Transplaining LLC and The CREDIT Institute Inc. AC is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Northeastern University. He’s a community partner with CHAT Life Changing Speech Therapy and a contractor with Prismatic Speech Services.
Non-financial: AC is a founding member of the Trans Voice Initiative and is a topic area expert in gender for the Informed SLP. He is a 2023 ASHA Convention Planning Committee Diversity Co-Chair. AC serves on the community advisory board overseeing research out of Boston University about the effects of exogenous testosterone therapy on communication in AFAB speakers. He’s also on the editorial board of the Journal of Communication Disorders.
Course format
This is a blended online course that utilizes one live meeting, pre-recorded webinars, assigned readings, quizzes, written responses, and a case study. The live meeting will include a questions and answers session, scenarios work, and a techniques workshop. This course will be available for 5.15 ASHA CEUs. It is not possible to earn partial ASHA CEUs for this course.
Important dates:
The course begins on January 1, 2025.
The live meeting will be held on Zoom on January 6, 2025 from 11AM-4PM EST (1-hour lunch break included).
The final deadline for all asynchronous work is February 25, 2025.

Watch all pre-recorded webinars
Complete all assigned readings
Complete all written responses
Attend the live meeting
Complete the case study assignment
Complete the course feedback survey
Required readings:
Voice and Communication Therapy for the Transgender/Gender Diverse Client: A Comprehensive Clinical Guide by Richard K. Adler, Sandy Hirsch, and Jack Pickering.
Participants are expected to purchase these readings. Listed readings are not provided by CREDIT or the instructor of this course upon registration.
Learning Outcomes & Objectives
Participants will:
Identify methods to assess and treat clients for issues related to vocal incongruence
Generate sample goals related to vocal congruence
List action steps towards creating safe(r) and affirming environments for TGNC patients, clients and students through policy and procedure
Describe ASHA policy and resources and federal legislation guiding inclusion and service provision to gender diverse populations
